The President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, will feature for a professional football club in the country for next season.

President Morales, 54, an avid football fan, has signed for Sports Boys, a team based in the south-eastern province of Santa Cruz.

The first division club said the president is not expected to play in each game, owing to his tight schedules but would play for about 20 minutes per match.

He will receive the minimum salary, about $214 (£127).

Evo Morales Will Wear Jersey Number 10 for Sports Boys.

He loves football and plays well, said Sport Boys president Mario Cronenbold. Hell wear No. 10 shirt.

Well send him a list of matches and hell chose which ones to play in.

Mr Morales has played in several well-publicised matches with journalists, union leaders and other presidents.

In 2007 he played a match at 6,000m (19,700ft) above sea level in a protest against efforts to stop Bolivia playing its international matches at high altitude.

He suffered a broken nose, after colliding with a goalkeeper in 2006.
